General Post Branch Offices — Old Cavendish Street — Paid Marks.

Old Cavendish Street office replaced the Vere Street office,but covered the same area,
i.e. the North West corner of London around Bond Street and Oxford Street.

In use from 1843 to 1853?

This cover dated 10 February 1844 shows the basic design mark with a frame size of 24.5 x 24, with moveable characters. It was struck in red ink. There appear to be no known variants of this mark.
Addressed to Mr Cragg, Threekingham, Folkingham, the letter reads:-
Dr C
When can you meet me at Wormley for a long day if not 2, to arrange a new House and farmstead for Elliott, for which I shall find ye means (?) £1300 do ? We shall want a map — have you one, sendable by post? If so let me see it — N G 10 Feb 44
